The Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Hub is a team of research engineers led By Laurent Essioux and Hervé Ménager, dedicated to offering support in computational biology to Institut Pasteur’s research units and platforms.
Who we are
The Hub is organized around five expert poles:
- AIM – AI and Mathematical modelling:

- FUNOMICA – FUNctional and OMICs Analysis:
- Group head: Claudia Chica
- Expertise: Biological networks, Multi-OMICs data analysis, Functional analysis of omics data, Epigenomics, Transcriptomics, Single-cell, Quantitative regulation
- PAGE – Phylogeny, Algorithms, (meta)Genomics, Evolution:
- Group head: Julien Guglielmini
- Expertise: Phylogeny, Genomics, Metagenomics, Pangenomics, Sequences alignment & clustering
- STATS – Statistics
- Group head: Pascal Campagne
- Expertise: Experimental design, Inference & modeling, Artificial intelligence
- WISPR – Web Integration, Scientific Programming and Reproducibility:
- Group head: Elodie Chapeaublanc

Do not hesitate to visit the Pole pages or contact the Hub directors for futher details.
Beyond Bioinformatics and Biostatistics support
The Hub’s mission includes conducting knowledge transfer activities. Our campus-wide Bioinformatics and Biostatistics support role provides unique insight into institutional needs across the Paris campus. These demands may be extrapolated to the network of Insitut Pasteur’s partner institutions.
Hub engineers develop and maintain multiple tools and software to enable data analyses such as Shaman, JASS.
How to work with us
The Hub can help Institut Pasteur’s scientists in many ways:
- By direct interaction during the open-desk sessions. Every Tuesday morning (in person at the Yersin building)
- By short questions submitted through our web site
- By collaborating to research projects. The Hub support is:
- Free of charge for projects lasting less than 3 months of full-time equivalent effective working time – short projects
- Half of the full salary of an Engineer (3k€/month) for projects of 4 months or more – long projects
All projects must be submitted on our website with as much detail as possible: submit a project.
Short projects
Short projects are accepted provided that the required expertise is available in the Hub within a reasonable time.
Long projects
Long projects are examined by the Hub’s executive steering committee who meets three times a year (the second Thursday of March, June and December).
A specific template is available for long projects and has to be sent to Laurent Essioux and Hervé Ménager two weeks before the steering committee meeting. Discussions and exchanges with the Hub are encouraged before submitting long projects. In case of very long projects, the detachment of a Hub engineer is also possible.
See below the detached section for more information.
These different possibilities are summarized in the table below:
