About

The scientists, engineers, technicians, students and postdoctoral fellows in the Structural Biology and Chemistry Department study complex biological systems through a range of integrated approaches. We use observational techniques, experimentation and cutting-edge tools to gain insight into molecular mechanisms and structure at different scales of investigation down to the minutest detail. Our department has built a strong focus on structural biology through the use of X-ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance and electron cryomicroscopy techniques. The department also has a broad expertise in chemistry, with main interests in carbohydrates, peptides, proteins, heterocycles and nucleic acids. Several teams are also studying molecular interactions and reactions, and their physiological impact at the cellular level, using a variety of biochemical, biophysical and microscopy techniques. In silico simulation and prediction complete the range of approaches taken in the department. Our research relies on advanced core facilities housed within a central hub of technological platforms. The department hosts two joint research units with the CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research) – UMR 3528 “Structural biology of cellular processes and infectious diseases” and UMR 3523 “Organic Chemistry”.
