Les chercheurs, ingénieurs, étudiants et stagiaires post-doctoraux du département Biologie structurale et chimie mettent en œuvre un ensemble intégré d’approches pour l’étude des systèmes biologiques complexes. A travers l’observation et l’expérimentation en utilisant les outils technologiques les plus performants, nous sommes en mesure d’appréhender, à différentes échelles jusque dans leurs plus infimes détails, les mécanismes et la structure des molécules. D’une part, le département inclut une forte composante de biologie structurale, faisant notamment appel à la diffraction des rayons X, la résonance magnétique nucléaire et la cryo-microscopie électronique. Par ailleurs, la composante chimie du département se concentre en priorité sur les polysaccharides et les acides nucléiques. Plusieurs équipes étudient également les interactions et réactions moléculaires, et leur impact physiologique au niveau cellulaire, par des méthodes biochimiques, biophysiques et microscopiques. La simulation et la prédiction in silico vient compléter l’ensemble d’approches mises en œuvre au sein du Département. Toutes ces études bénéficient de l’équipement de pointe fédéré au sein d’un large ensemble de plates-formes technologiques. Le département comprend deux UMR CNRS : l’UMR 3528 « Biologie structurale des processus cellulaires et maladies infectieuses », et l’UMR 3523 « Unité de Chimie Organique (UCO) ».
