About
Our main objective is to increase the knowledge regarding the human virome during homeostasis and diseases.
We mainly focus on:
- immunocompromised patients, where new pathogens and new associations between known pathogens and diseases at found at higher frequency than in the general population,
- patients exposed to wildlife in Europe and Asia, including arthropods, as a source of unknown infections.
We mainly use Next Generation Sequencing as a broad and non-targeted technique, coupled with antibody screening and molecular testing targeted to potential viral hits. We thereby identify and characterize unknown viruses and also uncover unknown links between viruses in humans and animal/arthropod reservoirs. This ultimately leads to a better understanding of the epidemiological, clinical and pathophysiological features of diseases and, when available, to successful targeted therapy.
