Francois Schweisguth studied at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris (1983-88) and obtained a PhD in Developmental Biology in 1990 under the supervision of Jean-Antoine Lepesant (IJM, Paris) and Alain Vincent (CBD, Toulouse). He was a HFSP post-doctoral fellow with Pr. J. W. Posakony at the University of California San Diego (1990-93). He joined the CNRS in 1992, obtained a group leader position (ATIPE-CNRS) at the Ecole Normale Superieure (1996-2008) before joining the Institut Pasteur in 2008 to head a Research Unit. He was awarded a Silver Medal by the CNRS in 2006 and was elected as an EMBO member in 2012. He currently holds a CNRS Research Director position. He headed the CNRS UMR3738 (2011-20) and the BDCS Dept (2016-20), and is currently a co-coordinator of the Labex REVIVE (since 2011). His research focuses on the cell biology of Notch, the regulation of epithelial morphogenesis and the role of self-organization in the formation of developmental patterns using Drosophila as a model system.
