Photonic Bio-Imaging is a Unit of Technology and Service (UTechS) providing optical imaging expertise in life sciences and especially their application in studies on infectious biology.
The timescales and spatial scales of biological processes and molecules associated with life span extremely broad ranges, covering many orders of magnitude (from sub milliseconds and nanometer to minutes and centimeter). Observing these phenomena and their dynamics requires a dedicated broad set of instruments offering a wide-range of performance characteristics, and complementarities.
In this context, the platform is pleased to announce the recent installation of a state of the art off-the-shelf- Super resolution microscope, “Elyra 7” (Carl Zeiss Gmbh, Jena, Germany) cofinanced by the Institut Pasteur and the Labex IBEID. The system is equipped with two of the major super resolution modalities Lattice SIM (Structured Illumination Microscopy) and 3D SMLM (Single Molecule Localisation Microscopy) allowing the observation of fixed and living biological phenomena at spatial and temporal resolution scales not accessible with conventional microscopes (lateral localization precision : 10-20nm in SMLM, and temporal resolution : 19 images/sec in Lattice SIM). The microscope is also equipped with 2 cameras, an incubator, a CO2 controller and a drift correction system offering ideal conditions for live imaging.
