About
Listeriolysin S is a bacteriocin specifically produced in the intestine of orally infected mice and necessary for Listeria monocytogenes survival in this organ. In order to investigate whether this toxin might influence the composition of the host intestinal microbiota, high-throughput 16S ribosomal DNA was used to examine the intestinal microbiota in mice orally infected with Listeria monocytogenes F2365 wild type, Listeria monocytogenes F2365 ΔllsA, and its complemented strain. A decrease in representatives of the Allobaculum (P < 0.001) and Alloprevotella (P < 0.05) genera was associated with Listeriolysin S expression at 24 h p.i.
