Job Description

A Post-Doctoral/Engineer position is available for a highly motivated candidate to work on advanced 3D cryo-CLEM pipelines to study Sars-CoV-2 cell interactions.

The candidate will work under the supervision of Anna Sartori-Rupp at the cryo-EM facility of Institut Pasteur in Paris and in close contact with the group of Anne Brelot in the Dynamics of Host-Pathogen Interaction Unit directed by Jost Enninga.

This technological project will be carried out in a stimulating multidisciplinary environment, between research groups and imaging facilities. The candidate will have the cutting-edge optical and cryo-electron microscopy infrastructure and expertise present at Institut Pasteur at his/her disposal to integrate super-resolution methods in the project.

The cryo-EM facility of Institut Pasteur features state-of-the-art instrumentation for single particles and cellular studies, including a TitanKrios G3i Cryo-TEM equipped with a bioquantum imaging filter and a K3 direct electron detector and phase plates, two Glacios with Falcon III detector and Ceta-D camera for MicroED analysis, an Aquilos cryo-FIB/SEM system with cryo-lift-out and iFLM module, a Leica cryo-light Thunder Imager EM cryo-CLEM microscope. During the current year, the Titan Krios will be upgraded to the latest standard with Selectris X/Falcon4i and Cold-FEG & the two Glacios will be upgraded with Selectris/Falcon4i and with Falcon4i, respectively.

Together, the project will provide invaluable tools to advance our understanding of emerging viral infections and more generally of host-pathogen interaction mechanisms.

Qualifications

The successful candidates should have a PhD degree as well as documented experience in one, or several of the following fields: cell biology, cellular microbiology, structural biology, electron microscopy, 3D visualisation, and/or image processing.  Previous experience with advanced fluorescent microscopy imaging would be beneficial.

The candidate should be able to interact with members of an interdisciplinary consortium of imaging specialists, cell biologists, virologists, computer scientists, and biophysicists, and possess excellent interpersonal and scientific communication skills. A genuine enthusiasm for the research area and methodology will be a fundamental parameter in the choice of the candidate. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.

Job Offer

The full-time position is available starting in March 2022 for a period of 3 years funded by the PFR6 (Programme Fédérateur de Recherche) at Institut Pasteur in Paris, France. Salary and social benefits will be in accordance with the regulations of Institut Pasteur.

To apply, please send your complete application to anna.sartori-rupp@pasteur.fr including:

  • A cover letter, including a summary of your research experience and your suitability for the position
  • A CV, including personal contact details, education, professional experience and a list of publications
  • Contact details of three referees.

Applicants wishing to know more about the project are welcome to contact:

anna.sartori-rupp@pasteur.fr, anne.brelot@pasteur.fr and jost.enninga@pasteur.fr for further information.
