A little guide for advanced search:

  • Tip 1. You can use quotes "" to search for an exact expression.
    Example: "cell division"
  • Tip 2. You can use + symbol to restrict results containing all words.
    Example: +cell +stem
  • Tip 3. You can use + and - symbols to force inclusion or exclusion of specific words.
    Example: +cell -stem

About

In the context of the GenEpi-BioTrain project, Institut Pasteur is organizing a virtual training on “Waterborne Disease (Leptospirosis) and Water Surveillance”.

The aim of this virtual training workshop is to introduce participants to the theoretical and practical aspects of waterborne disease surveillance, using Leptospirosis as an example. Participants will gain insight into surveillance tools and the state of the art in human Leptospirosis. They will also gain knowledge on host communities of Leptospira and the need to understand them to identify the source of human cases and manage the associated risk. Additionally, in a second session, microbiological assessment of water quality will be covered. Participants will be first introduced to water monitoring before delving into the design of molecular tools and bathing water monitoring.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the basics of Leptospirosis, including the disease, pathogens, transmission, treatment, and dissemination.
  • Describe the state of the art in human Leptospirosis.
  • Explain what is a leptospira maintenance community and its impact on eco-epidemiological investigations
  • Explain how to find data related to animal Leptospira infection
  • Describe the microbiological assessment of water quality and the molecular tools in place.
  • Be familiar with the WHO quantitative analysis for water quality.
  • Understand the importance of water quality assessment, for example, in an environmental aspect or in the context of international events such as the Olympic Games in Paris (La Seine).

To access the virtual training sessions, you can register for free on the ECDC virtual platform (EVA). This will also allow you to have access to other webinars organized in this programme.
