    Exemple : +cellule -stem
e.g. searching for members in projects tagged cancer

Junior/Mid-career Group Leader position in Structural Biology/Cryo-electron microscopy & tomography

The Department Structural Biology and Chemistry of the Institut Pasteur, Paris, has an opening for a Junior/Mid-career Group Leader position in Structural Biology.

Background:

The Institut Pasteur, a non-profit organization and global leader in biomedical sciences, focusses on research encompassing fundamental life sciences and public health related issues.

With a rich history in virology, bacteriology, and immunology, current priorities of the institute include emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, brain connectivity and neurodegenerative diseases, vaccinology, and cancer biology. Applications are invited for Structural Biologists with expertise in cryo-electron microscopy, specifically in the areas of single-particle reconstruction, cellular structural biology, or cryo-electron tomography.

Local context:

The selected candidate will become part of the cutting-edge interdisciplinary environment provided by the Department Structural Biology and Chemistry. This department comprises 9 research teams and 9 technological platforms, offering a rich collaborative atmosphere. For more details, please visit: https://research.pasteur.fr/en/department/structural-biology-chemistry/

The Institut Pasteur boasts advanced technological infrastructure including three state-of-the-art transmission electron microscopes (one Titan Krios, two Glacios) as well as an Aquilos cryo-FIB. These microscopes are equipped with direct-electron detectors and energy filters and are housed in the shared Nanoimaging facility (https://research.pasteur.fr/en/team/nanoimaging/), which will be accessible to the selected candidate. There are also plans for the cryo-electron microscopy to evolve to BSL2 and BSL3 levels of containment.

Position:

We are looking for highly qualified candidates with an excellent track record in integrated structural biology. The ideal candidates will have a strong focus on employing cryo-electron microscopy in a multidisciplinary approach to address important and challenging biological questions. Collaboration with scientists within the Department and across other Departments is expected.

Applicants should possess 5-12 years of experience in the field and, depending on experience, a demonstrated history of sustained grant support. Maternity and paternity leave will be taken into account. Evaluation of applications will be based on scientific excellence. Successful candidates will be offered a permanent position starting from Fall 2024. Additionally, we provide highly competitive packages tailored to match the candidate’s experience. These packages include institutional salaries for positions such as the principal investigator, a technician, and postdoctoral fellows, as well as administrative support. Furthermore, substantial contributions towards running costs and equipment, access to state-of-the-art technology core facilities on campus, as well as support for relocation expenses and administrative matters will be provided.

Institut Pasteur values diverse perspectives and is committed to continually supporting, promoting, and building an inclusive and culturally diverse campus environment.

Interested candidates are encouraged to contact the head of the Department Structural Biology and Chemistry, Paola Arimondo (paola.arimondo@pasteur.fr), and Michael Nilges, the head of the Structural Bioinformatics Unit and Vice President of Technology (michael.nilges@pasteur.fr), for any inquiries.

The application template is available here.  Applicants are required to submit their applications along with a minimum of two recommendation letters as a single PDF file to: cryoem_2023@pasteur.fr The deadline for submitting applications is July 15th, 2023. Short-listed candidates will be contacted in September 2023 for on-campus interviews. The final interview will take place in December 2023.
