Francois Schweisguth studied at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris (1983-88) and obtained a PhD in Developmental Biology in 1990 under the supervision of Jean-Antoine Lepesant (IJM, Paris) and Alain Vincent (CBD, Toulouse). He was a HFSP post-doctoral fellow with Pr. J. W. Posakony at the University of California San Diego (1990-93). He joined the CNRS in 1992 and obtained a group leader position (ATIPE-CNRS) at the Ecole Normale Superieure, Biology Dept (Paris) in 1996. He moved to the Institut Pasteur (Paris) to head a Pasteur Unit in 2008. He was awarded a Silver Medal by the CNRS in 2006 and was elected as an EMBO member in 2012. He currently holds a CNRS Research Director position. He is the Director of the CNRS UMR3738 (since 2011), the head of the BDCS Dept (since 2016), a co-coordinator the Labex REVIVE (since 2011) and a co-director of a Pasteur/REVIVE course on Stem Cell Biology (since 2013). His research focuses on the cell biology of Notch, the role of self-organization in the formation of developmental patterns, the control of cell fate and the regulation of epithelial morphogenesis using Drosophila as a model system.
