A postdoctoral position is available at Institut Pasteur in Paris to investigate the biology and epidemic potential of African Zika virus strains. Although all Zika outbreaks to date have been exclusively associated with strains from the Asian lineage, a body of evidence indicates higher transmissibility and pathogenicity of Zika virus strains from the African lineage. To enhance our preparedness, is essential to characterize the biological properties of African Zika virus strains and devise strategies to prevent their emergence.
The position is part of a larger consortium (CAZIKANO) and relies specifically on a collaboration between the Jouvenet lab (https://research.pasteur.fr/en/team/virus-sensing-and-signaling/) and the Lambrechts lab (https://research.pasteur.fr/en/team/insect-virus-interactions/). The CAZIKANO consortium addresses multiple aspects of the interactions between African Zika virus and both its mammalian and mosquito hosts, at biological scales ranging from the population to the protein level. The specific postdoc project will be tailored according to the skills and the interests of the candidate, in agreement with the consortium’s objectives.
Applicants must hold (or be about to obtain) a PhD in a relevant field such as virology or vector biology. Prior wet-lab experience is required, and biosafety level-3 proficiency would be a significant advantage. High motivation, impeccable work ethics, excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively are essential.
The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled. The expected start date (negotiable) is before mid-2024. The position is initially for 12 months with a possible extension for another 24 months. Salary will be commensurate with experience according to the institutional guidelines.
