Summary: It is increasingly clear that environmental conditions experiences in one generation can affect phenotypes in future generations. In mammals, we have focused on effects of paternal exposure history on a variety of traits in his children. I will discuss our ongoing work to understand how paternal dietary history is transmitted to offspring, focusing on 1) surprising aspects of small RNA biogenesis in the male reproductive tract; 2) effects of tRNA fragments on preimplantation gene regulation; and 3) the “bandwidth” of sperm information transfer.
