In the seminar I will report on the discovery and the mechanism of the spliced leader silencing (SLS) pathway which is induced under ER stress, and pH stress. The mechanism involves the shut-off of SL RNA transcription and the induction programmed cell death; then I will describe how perturbation in SL RNA biogenesis leads to the transport of the RNA to the cytoplasm and its final excretion by exosomes which affects social motility. In the last part of my talk I will describe our work on the regulation of small nucleolar RNAs which guide RNA modification and its possible importance for adaptation of the parasite to living in the mammalian host.
