“NMR in drug discovery”
NMR spectroscopy not only is a powerful method for structure determination, but also a robust biophysical method to detect and characterize even weak protein-ligand interactions. This makes NMR a very useful tool for drug discovery. Hit finding by NMR fragment screening can yield lead compounds even for difficult targets, and the hits can be characterized with respect to binding site and binding mode. Some applications of NMR in drug discovery will be shown, including the NMR-assisted identification of ABL001, an allosteric inhibitor of BCR-ABL kinase that is currently in clinical trials.
