The bacterium Listeria monocytogenes is responsible for severe food-borne infections that primarily affect immunocompromised individuals, pregnant women, newborns and the elderly. Mortality due to listeriosis is close to 30%. Contamination by this microorganism leads to food recalls. Listeria monocytogenes is also an animal pathogen of veterinary importance. Strikingly, three decades of molecular and cellular studies have raised Listeria among the best models in infection biology.
The ISOPOL XIX meeting will cover many aspects concerning Listeria and listeriosis ranging from epidemiology, diagnostic, novel typing methods, genomics and post genomics, bacterial regulatory mechanisms, cell biology and pathogenesis.
ISOPOL XIX is the 19th edition of an international meeting which gathers every three years participants from all over the world and allows exchange and update on the latest developments on all topics relevant to Listeria and listeriosis. It also stimulates contacts between basic and applied science. We aim to attract around 450 participants from all nationalities. The target audience includes scientists from the academy, the industry and from public health agencies: fundamental microbiologists, medical and veterinary microbiologists, and public health specialists as well as researchers in cell biology and immunology.
ISOPOL XIX is a unique opportunity for industrial partners to be in contact with the scientists who work with Listeria in the academic, medical and industrial fields, and know best the bacterium and the disease.
