Présentation
The genomic and nomenclature databases of strains of pathogenic bacterial species are available through the Institut Pasteur BIGSdb portal: http://bigsdb.pasteur.fr. The portal is powered by the Bacterial Isolates Genome Sequence DataBase (BIGSdb) tool developed by Keith Jolley and Martin Maiden at the Zoology Department, Oxford University.
These databases allow mining genome sequences of bacterial isolates to define their genotype, sublineage, antimicrobial resistance genes, and pathogenic features.
The strain nomenclatures are widely used in the field of molecular epidemiology of nosocomial and food-borne infections and by international networks of pathogen surveillance. They also represent a useful resource for collaborative population biology research.
