Abstract :

In response to stress, the transcription factor p53 rapidly accumulates in the nucleus where it regulates gene expression to maintain genomic and cellular integrity. The numerous genes regulated by p53 are involved in several biological processes such as cell cycle arrest, apoptosis or senescence. The interplay between influenza A viruses (IAV) and p53 has only been reported in a limited number of studies which mainly highlight the role of p53 in the antiviral response. Our work have uncover multiple levels of interplay between p53 and IAV, with a large diversity of mechanisms. Our current model suggests that this IAV-induced modulation of p53 transcriptional activity, involving several IAV proteins, allows a very fine regulation of biological responses that in turn facilitate IAV replication.
