Nazarii Sabat hails from Lviv, Ukraine, where he earned his Master’s degree in Chemistry at the National University of Lviv. In 2012, he relocated to Prague, Czech Republic, to pursue a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Michal Hocek at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (IOCB) and Charles University. His PhD research focused on the synthesis of modified nucleobases for medicinal chemistry and chemical biology applications.
In 2018, Nazarii moved to France for a postdoctoral position with Prof. Nadège Lubin-Germain at CY Cergy Paris University, developing C-nucleosides as potential antiviral and antitumor agents.
In 2019, he undertook a second postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Chemistry of Natural Substances (ICSN-CNRS), where he worked with Dr. Xavier Guinchard on gold catalysis. During this time, he also participated in collaborative projects working with Dr. Olivier Berteau (INRAE) on biocatalysis and with Dr. Guillaume Vincent (ICMMO) on spiroindole natural product analogues.
In 2022, Nazarii joined the Institut Pasteur in Paris to work on the enzymatic synthesis of oligonucleotides in Dr. Marcel Hollenstein’s lab collaborating with pharmaceutical company Roche (Switzerland).
In 2024, Nazarii secured a permanent position as a CNRS Research Scientist at the Institut Pasteur, focusing on the chemical and enzymatic synthesis of modified oligonucleotides for applications in chemical biology, therapeutics, and nanotechnology.
