Postdoctoral positions are available in the Trypanosome Molecular Biology lab, led by Dr. Lucy Glover in the Department of Parasites and Insect Vectors, at the Institut Pasteur Paris. The Institut Pasteur provides an excellent scientific environment and access to state-of-the-art facilities. Our lab utilizes state of the art techniques such as genome scale screening, high throughput sequencing, mass spectrometry and super-resolution microscopy to tackle previously intractable biology.
Project outline:
Trypanosoma brucei evade the mammalian host immune system though antigenic variation, the stochastic switching of the surface variant glycoprotein (VSG). This immune evasion mechanism is dependent on both strict monoallelic expression of a single VSG gene and VSG switching, which occurs predominately via gene conversion events. Projects are available to study both the role of DNA repair and recombination in VSG switching and the role of a newly characterized protein, VEX1, in regulating monoallelic VSG expression.
The successful applicants will start by early 2018.
Candidate requirements:
- PhD with outstanding academic track record and at least one first authored publication in an internationally recognized peer-reviewed journal.
- Previous experience in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology.
- Capable of working in a team, but able to plan and work independently.
- Excellent communication skills and written and verbal English.
Successful applicants are expected to work in an interdisciplinary team, managing multiple tasks, have good organisational skills, and willingness to work outside their core expertise.
