Background
Institut Pasteur’s Outbreak Investigation Task Force (OITF) of the Center for Global Health is launching a call for collaborative, transversal and interdisciplinary projects aimed at enhancing understanding of emerging infectious diseases (EIDs). Emerging infectious diseases continue to pose a major threat to public health, as exemplified by the H1N1pdm09 influenza pandemic in 2009, the recent Ebola outbreaks in West and Central Africa, or the Zika epidemic in the Americas. A multidisciplinary approach to studying host, pathogen, and environmental factors contributing to infectious disease emergence is critical to improving outbreak detection, control, and prevention. The aim of this call is to provide small grants to investigators willing to gather preliminary data on innovative approaches in the area of host-vector-pathogen interactions, microbial detection and characterisation, pathogen transmission and epidemic dynamics, and social and human practices driving global pathogenic threats– all core activities of the wider INCEPTION project. Funded through the INCEPTION program and the ‘Institut Convergence des Investissements d’Avenir,’ selected proposals will be receive funding of 10,000€ for 12 months from the date of the award.
Funding
10,000€ per project over a 12-month period (1 December 2018 – 30 November 2019)
- The award covers running costs only, including equipment purchases <4000€
Application and eligibility
- Interdisciplinary project on emerging, epidemic-prone pathogens, combining two or more complementary areas of expertise (e.g., epidemiology, biology, mathematical modelling, social sciences)
- Study objectives should aim to improve understanding the prevention, detection, or control of epidemic-prone EIDs
- One of the teams carrying the project must be based at Institut Pasteur, Paris. Teams affiliated with other INCEPTION partners are eligible to receive funding as collaborators. To see partners of INCEPTION: https://research.pasteur.fr/en/program_project/inception/
- Projects may also include the participation of additional teams not affiliated with the INCEPTION program. However, the budget allocated by INCEPTION will not cover the expenses of such partners for the implementation of the project
Submission procedure
