About
Alphaviruses are arboviruses responsible for main outbreak as the one with Chikungunya virus. These viruses are transmitted to Human and animals through the bite of hematophagous arthropods, mostly mosquitoes from the genera Aedes and Culex. They are causing arthritis or encephalomyelitis. Little or no curative treatment are available. Their transmission mode explains viruses geographic spreading risks and their associated pathologies, which are increasing thanks to the actual globalization context. Some of these alphaviruses are describes in the literature but few are characterized from clinical and fundamental points of view. In order to anticipate and prevent these risks for the Population, a study focusing on one of them, the Babanki virus (BBKV), an identified and isolated but not characterized African alphavirus has been set up.
