About
In 2022, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) granted a new framework contract to a consortium of twelve institutes from eight European countries. The project, titled “AURORAE,” focuses on “Supporting microbiology-related activities and capacity-building efforts targeting COVID-19, influenza, and more recently RSV in the EU/European Economic Area (EEA), the Western Balkans, and Türkiye.” It encompasses laboratory support, training, and standardization, with a primary aim of strengthening the capacity for genomic epidemiology and public health bioinformatics through interdisciplinary training in the EEA, Western Balkans, and Türkiye. This initiative is crucial for pandemic responses and managing unexpected major public health events. AURORAE, which began in June 2022, will continue until 2026.
AURORAE activities consist in:
External Quality Assessments (EQAs)
Centralised Laboratory Support
Training Activities
The National Reference Center for Respiratory Viruses at Institut Pasteur actively contributes to bioinformatics (see reports) and wetlab EQAs, as well as training activities.
