Seminar entitled :
Viruses are great (again): new insights on tropism, and a new mission
Abstract :
Viruses continue to shape human history through disease, but modified viruses make great vaccines. Viruses are a source of knowledge, as unifying scientific principles are discovered through virology. My group studies measles and related viruses. We focus on how these viruses enter cells and spread in the organism. We recently discovered a process elicited by the measles virus epithelial receptor that transfers cytoplasm between cells and may spread infection to neurons. We leverage our ability to target and arm measles virus to develop it into an anticancer weapon, contributing to the emerging field of oncolytic therapy.
