I will highlight the dysfunctional speech production network of people who stutter and present effects of, both, behavioral therapeutic interventions and of brain stimulation on the anomalous speech-related brain activity. One emerging finding in people who stutter is a deficit in controlling fast transients in the produced auditory speech stream that is associated with diminished auditorymotor interactions in the left cerebral hemisphere. I will end by presenting a case in which dysfunctional cortico-basal loops are modulated by left thalamic electric stimulation to increase speech fluency in a young adult who stutters.
