Cheikh joined the Virology Department of the Institut Pasteur de Dakar (IPD) in 2016 as a research scientist in diagnostic innovation. His main areas of interest focused on global health innovation, particularly the development and evaluation of point-of-care diagnostic tools, digital health for sample transport and biobanking, as well as rapid extraction methods for nucleic acid amplification.
Since March 2020, he has been leading the DIATROPIX laboratory, a social enterprise founded by IPD, the Mérieux Foundation (France), the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (Geneva), and the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD). DIATROPIX is dedicated to the development and production of rapid diagnostic tests, primarily for neglected and epidemic diseases in Africa.
