This text traces the extraordinary advances made in genomics for 40years: recombinant DNA, transgenesis or genetic sequencing. In recent years, the model “all genetics” was questioned and post-genomics emerged in the molecular landscape. The promises of medical advances are many and the ethical issues that accompany them are challenges. Advances in synthetic biology are a relevant illustration of these promises and challenges.
