The route of the fungal spores (also called conidia) into human system is through the lungs wherein they encounter epithelial barrier as well as innate immune cells. The mechanisms by which innate immune cells eliminate conidia are quite well documented. Soluble mediators, another component of the host innate immune system, are also reported to play a role in combating against A. fumigatus invasion; however, their defence mechanism is poorly understood, which the main goal of our project is.
