JOB DESCRIPTION
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the Institut Pasteur within the Statistical Genetics unit of the department of Computational Biology. Our unit addresses methodological challenges in the analysis of large multidimensional data in genetics and genomics. It focuses on particular on the development and application of novel statistical methods that aim at i) improving association mapping using multivariate approaches, ii) understanding the interplay between genetics and the environment; and ii) evaluating the potential public health and clinical utility of the identified associations.
The selected candidate will work closely with Dr. Hugues Aschard, head of the unit. He will lead the implementation and contribute to the development of novel approaches to identify the genetic and molecular pathways underlying lung phenotypes. The project uses an unprecedented collection of blood and lung transcriptomic and proteomic data, along with new metabolomics data, and a far-ranging collection of lung-related genetic datasets including individual-level data from six deeply phenotyped cohorts. It is part of a large international collaboration co-led by our unit and Dr Michael Cho team at the Brigham & Women Hospital in Boston, USA, who has a unique expertise in the genetics of lung diseases. It will benefit the thriving, lively and resourceful environment of the Pasteur Institute, an Internationally recognized institution hosting over a thousand researchers in the center of Paris.
The position is fixed term for 2 years, renewable for one more year. The salary range between 3,300 to 4,000 euros (before tax) per month, depending on the candidate experience.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in Statistics/Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or other relevant disciplines with a strong quantitative research background. Practical experience working with large scale genetic data sets, developing new methods, and producing high quality published work, are desirable. Applicants may start as early as possible and applications will be considered until the position is filled.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Interested applicants should send their curriculum vitae, a cover letter detailing research experience, and contact information for three references to Dr. Hugues Aschard (hugues.aschard@pasteur.fr).
