We are looking to recruit a highly motivated post-doctoral scientist to come work with us on developing CRISPR- based diagnostics for Trypanosomatid parasites.
Progression towards control or elimination of the vector- born trypanosomatids – African trypanosomiases, Chagas disease and leishmaniases is dependent on accurate surveillance using reliable diagnostic tests with high positive predictive values. The development of simple effective diagnostic tools that can be used for mass screening and are available at the point of care to monitor for treatment failure that could be linked to emergent drug resistance are vital to combatting these diseases.
We are looking for a motivated post-doctoral researcher with a strong background in molecular biology to join our team to develop CRISPR based diagnostics – Specific High-sensitivity Enzymatic Reporter unLOCKing (SHERLOCK) for trypanosomatids. This project will involve CRISPR-Cas13 based techniques, developing reporter assays, DNA and RNA extraction from both the lab and field isolates and bioinformatic analysis of T. brucei, T. cruzi and Leishamnia spp. A background in parasitology is not essential for this position.
This position is funded by the ANR and is a collaboration between the labs of Lucy Glover (Institut Pasteur Paris – https://research.pasteur.fr/en/team/trypanosomes-molecular-biology/), Brice Rotureau (Institut Pasteur Paris and the Institut Pasteur Guinea – https://research.pasteur.fr/en/team/group-brice-rotureau/), Jean-Matthieu Bart (IRD Montpellier, Conakry & Bouaké) and John Kelly (London Centre for Neglected Tropical Disease Research). The post-doc will be embedded in the team of Lucy Glover but will work closely with all teams on the project.
