We are looking for a postdoc to come work with us on chromatin and epigenetics in the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum!
P. falciparum is a crafty parasite that uses epigenetic mechanisms to control complex transcriptional programs key to human immune system evasion. In particular, we are interested in how the parasite achieves mutually exclusive expression of the var multigene family, which encodes an important surface antigen. The goal of the postdoctoral project will be to investigate the role of a var gene-associated protein complex in chromatin organization and transcription.
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in molecular biology and/or bioinformatics. The project will involve parasite cell culture, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, RNA sequencing, and chromatin immunoprecipitation and sequencing. Experience with Next Generation sequencing-based techniques, computational analysis, and cell culture is a great advantage, but prior experience in parasitology is not required.
This position is fully funded for three years by a collaborative grant shared by the teams of Jessica Bryant and Mohamed-Ali Hakimi, with a start date of February 2022. The postdoc will be hosted by Team Bryant (https://research.pasteur.fr/en/member/jessica-bryant/) at the Pasteur Institute (Paris, France), but will work closely with Team Hakimi, located at the Institute for Advanced Biosciences (Grenoble, France). The Pasteur Institute is an international, dynamic, and enriching biomedical research environment. The successful candidate will be mentored and supported in their career development and will be expected to independently advance the project, present their work at international conferences, and prepare publications.
If you are a skilled, enthusiastic, and highly motivated researcher who wants to be at the exciting intersection of epigenetics and parasitology, please send your CV, the names and contact information of three references, and a motivation letter to jessica.bryant@pasteur.fr by October 1st, 2021. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment, and candidates will be evaluated solely on qualifications.
