I am research scientist and current Deputy Head of the Immunophysiopathology and Infectious Diseases department at Institut Pasteur de Dakar in Senegal. My training as a researcher took place across four continents (Africa, Asia, America and Europe) and gave me a solid scientific culture for both fundamental as well as applied or translational research. With a solid background in molecular parasitology, I apply my expertise and skills in various areas of public health with a strong impact on mortality and morbidity in African populations.
My early work focused on the molecular diversity of Plasmodium falciparum and resistance to antimalarials, the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms involved in the physiopathology of malaria and gradually opening the field of my research to the diagnostic of malaria parasites species.
Over the last decade, my efforts have been centered on novel laboratory and field diagnostics in response to the critical needs of innovative diagnostics to tackle the challenge of the asymptomatic reservoir and neglected malaria parasites for an improved control of malaria infection and to accelerate the elimination of the disease. Leveraging on my expertise on malaria diagnostic, I extended my research on integrated multi-pathogens surveillance for a comprehensive, real-time understanding of malaria and neglected tropical diseases with the constant aim of translating my research findings to inform public health decision-making and the development of countermeasures against infectious diseases.
