Assunta studied Molecular Biology at University of Naples Federico II. For her master thesis and her PhD studies at University of Naples in Italy (Prof. Ezio Ricca) and ITQB in Portugal (Dr. Adriano O. Enriques), she focused on the protein-protein interactions during B. subtilis spore formation. Afterwards, she moved her research interest towards Neurobiology. She joined in 2010 the Institute of Microanatomy and Neurobiology at University Medical Center – Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany (Prof. Robert Nitsch), where she studied the role of altered glutamatergic transmission during hippocampal development. Then she moved to Paris, joining the laboratory of Neurotransmission and Signaling at Institut du Fer à Moulin (INSERM), in Paris (Dr. Jean-Antoine Girault and Dr. Denis Hervé), where she characterised a new animal model of dystonia and investigated the role of BDNF/TrkB signaling in the development of dyskinesia. She also worked as scientist at Sanofi R&D on neurodegenerative diseases and got a training on Clinical Research at Université de Paris. She recently joined the Institut Pasteur as Department Manager. Her role is to contribute to the scientific dissemination of the department, and to oversee the process of research translation.
