We study the molecular and cellular mechanisms responsible for the pluripotency of embryonic stem cells in lagomorphs and primates. We focus our studies on signalling pathways, chromatin modifiers and cell cycle regulators that support naïve-state pluripotency. We are studying how these factors can be manipulated to produce the next generation of pluripotent stem cells for applications in human stem cell therapy. We also seek to create pluripotent stem cells capable of generating intra- and inter-species chimeras in primates.
