A little guide for advanced search:

  • Tip 1. You can use quotes "" to search for an exact expression.
    Example: "cell division"
  • Tip 2. You can use + symbol to restrict results containing all words.
    Example: +cell +stem
  • Tip 3. You can use + and - symbols to force inclusion or exclusion of specific words.
    Example: +cell -stem
e.g. searching for members in projects tagged cancer

A computational scientist position is available in the Research Unit (Epi)Genomics of Animal Development at the Institut Pasteur (Paris) to study the transcriptional regulation and variability of animal cell types during development, disease and upon environmental changes.

The lab is interested to understand how cells acquire and maintain their distinct and specific properties in response to developmental or external cues.  For this, we develop new methods combining genomic, single-cell transcriptomics and 3D imaging to investigate the regulation of cell-type identity in a variety of animal and development systems. We seek to recruit a computational scientist to apply and develop new computational tools to analyze and integrate the large data sets generated with this project, with the goal to decipher the mechanisms controlling cell states.

Applicants should hold a minimum of a diploma degree in computational sciences, engineering or statistics and possess relevant experience in “omics” data analysis, database design, image analysis and/or large dataset visualization methods, including design and implementation of new tools.  Working knowledge of C++, of statistical programming and data manipulation with R, Python or Java, ability to work on a UNIX/GPU cluster are required.  A strong background in statistics will be an asset. Familiarity with Matlab and ImageJ is a plus but not required.

Candidates must be able to work independently, to multitask efficiently and to display well-developed organizational skills for documentation and presentation of results. The post holder will work and interact closely with biologists and other scientists in the lab and in the Pasteur Center for Innovation and Technological Research (Citech) as part of the Pasteur Single Cell Initiative. Ability to understand biological questions and communicate the output of computational/statistical analysis to other team member will be important. English is the working language of the lab.

Depending on qualification and interests of the candidate, the position can be filled at the postdoctoral researcher or research engineer level. Funding for the position is available for a minimum three-year period (initial contract set at 18 months, with an extension to three years upon performance).

Interested candidates should send a C.V., letter of introduction and a brief statements of research experience, together with the names and contact information of three references to Dr. Francois Spitz (francois.spitz@pasteur.fr) and Dr. Heather Marlow (heather.marlow@pasteur.fr).  The position is available beginning March 2018, but a later start date is negotiable.  Applications will be reviewed upon receipt and the position will remain open until filled.
