About
A CONFERENCE ORGANIZED BY THE SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL
The phylum of Spirochetes belong to an evolutionarily and structurally unique group of bacteria containing major pathogens, such as the causative agents of syphillis, Lyme disease and leptospirosis. In the last few years, our unit has been working on Leptospira spp. which are helix-shaped bacteria with endoflagellar motility (one endoflagellum or periplasmic flagellum is attached at each extremity). Pathogenic Leptospira spp. are the agents of leptospirosis, an emerging zoonotic disease which affects 1 million and kills 60,000 persons annually. In my presentation, I will discuss our recent advances in the field of the epidemiology, genomics, and virulence in leptospires. Further progress in our understanding of the mechanism of pathogenesis of leptospirosis should contribute to the development of novel strategies for the diagnostic and prevention of this neglected emerging disease which is of global concern.
This conference is open to the general public. However pre-registration is mandatory for non-Pasteurians attendees at least two days prior to the actual conference. Please send an email to SCconferences@pasteur.fr with your name, first name, your institution and how you heard about the conference. We will then acknowledge reception of your message and give you indications to attend the conference. We look forward to welcoming you.
