Project EMMIE: “Multimodal Endoscopy for Inflammatory lesions”
Up to now, pre-neoplasia and stomach cancer lesions can only be diagnosed by gastric endoscopy and histological analysis of the gastric biopsies. In upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, white light endoscopic imaging allows the physician to detect and describe abnormalities of the gastric mucosa. Only few systems are using optical imaging in endoscopy and they are limited to the acquisition of a very small number of spectral bands. We are developing a pluridisciplinary project with physicists, biologists and clinicians, in the framework of an ANR program to improve the detection of inflammatory and preneoplastic lesions in the gastric mucosa. Our objectives are to acquire a base of characteristic spectra for each type of inflammatory lesions at various stages of their development.
