About

Rapid Envenomation Algorithm for Clinical Treatment

REACT-Snake (Rapid Envenomation Algorithm for Clinical Treatment) is an innovative mobile app designed for healthcare professionals dealing with snakebites in sub-Saharan Africa. Completely free, fully offline and built for field realities, it delivers fast, reliable clinical support—from the patient’s arrival to discharge.

Created by specialists from the Institut Pasteur and IRD in collaboration with Beninese and Cameroonian clinicians, REACT-Snake offers a decision-support algorithm tailored to the wide range of local clinical situations. Step by step, users identify envenomation symptoms and receive treatment recommendations based on observed clinical signs.

Because the region spans more than 1,500 languages, the app favors a strong visual approach: all medical content is illustrated, making information understandable for all health workers, regardless of language or specialization.

REACT-Snake also embeds an innovative information-sharing feature: at the end of care, a summary sheet generated by the app can be shared instantly via QR code. This ensures continuity between caregivers—especially during shift handovers—and minimizes the risk of losing critical data. The app also reminds you of the optimal times to reassess your patient and adjust management.

To protect confidentiality, REACT-Snake collects no personal data. Its goal is to provide immediate, reliable clinical assistance aligned with best practices in snakebite care.

Key features

  • Symptom-based clinical decision algorithm
  • Intuitive visual interface addressing linguistic challenges
  • Expert-validated medical content on envenomation
  • Full offline use—ideal in low-connectivity settings
  • Patient summary sheets with QR code for seamless handover
  • Free app with zero personal-data collection

Whether you are a physician, midwife, nurse, nursing assistant or other frontline health worker, REACT-Snake is an essential tool to strengthen your response to snakebite envenomation.
