Jules Villa’s work is located at the intersection of history of science and medical anthropology with a particular focus on epidemics in Africa. He is currently working on a book on the African history of mpox as part of a postdoc project supported by ANRS-MIE (2024 – 2027).
He defended his PhD thesis titled On the trail of Ebola : Investigating the origins of the virus in northeastern DRC in 2024 at SciencesPo under the supervision of Guillaume Lachenal. He has conducted field research in DRC since 2019, mainly in the Kivu, Uele and Mongala provinces. He has teaching experience both in France and in DRC on the history of epidemics and contemporary issues in global health.
