Key principles
The SPAIS (Department for Scientific Programming and Incentive Actions) and the Postdoc Office are pleased to co-announce the launch of the 2024 edition of an internal seed-grants call dedicated to its youngest members willing to explore new interdisciplinary research approaches.
This “Postdoc Seed-Grants Call” will support short-term exploratory projects to investigate new research directions, evaluate innovative protocols and collect preliminary data. Interdisciplinary & collaborative projects between postdocs from different entities of the Institut Pasteur Paris Campus are mandatory.
Timeline
- Application closing: May 15th, 2024 (6pm, Paris time)
- Announcement of decisions and funding start date: early/mid-June 2024
- Budget funding deadline: December 15th, 2024
- Project duration: 6 months to 1 year
Eligibility
- This new call is exclusively open to senior postdoc scientists currently working on the Paris campus and with a current contract running until at least December 31st, 2024 or, for longer projects, covering the full duration of the project. The senior postdoc must have started her/his current postdoc on the campus at least 12 months before applying to the seed-grants call (ie on April 1st, 2024).
- The seed-grants are only tenable in Institut Pasteur Paris; the postdoc laureates will develop the research project in their current lab.
- Collaborative projects with another postdoc from a different entity/laboratory of the campus are mandatory to foster new interactions on the campus and give rise to transversal and interdisciplinary scientific projects.
–> If needed, your postdoc representatives and/or the different Department Managers might be able to help you identify a postdoc collaborator to apply to this call. - A postdoc can only present one project per edition.
- Scientific projects duration should last 6 months to 1 year, provided that 1) both postdoc contracts (covering their salaries) do cover the project duration and 2) the budget will be fully dispensed before December 15th, 2024 (budget reports will not be possible over 2024).
- The postdocs must get the agreement of their Head of unit/entity (laboratory, platform/UTechS etc).
Budget
Seed grant projects are funded up to 15,000 € for the whole project (shared between the 2 laboratories/entities); only running costs/consumables and small equipment (< 2k€ HT total, to be discussed) are allowed (no travel costs etc).
All awarded funds must be dispensed before December 15th, 2024 ie orders have to be placed before December 15th, 2024 and received by December 31st, 2024 (in accordance with administrative and financial incentive rules).
Selection process
The proposals will be evaluated by an internal scientific committee based on scientific quality of the proposal, feasibility/risk balance, innovation and originality, and the results will be announced by early/mid-June 2024 with an immediate funding activation.
