Rabies is a zoonosis of viral origin responsible for tens of thousands of human deaths each year in countries where dog rabies is not controlled and where post-exposure prophylaxis -PEP- is not available to populations the most vulnerable. In France, the epidemiology of rabies has changed for 20 years and our territory is currently declared free from rabies in terrestrial animals since 2001. This favorable epidemiology no longer justifies the administration of PEP in individuals exposed to an animal -except bats- in France except in French Guiana because of the risk of desmodin-type rabies in South America.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31626500.
