Haitham is synthetic organic chemist working on interface between chemistry and biology. After doing his masters degree in organic chemistry between university of Graz in Austria and Fayoum university in Egypt, He joined the laboratory of Prof. Yannick Landais in University of Bordeaux to do his PhD on total synthesis of Leucophyllidine and Eucophylline through free radical approaches. He then got his PhD in Organic chemistry in 2016 and directly joined the group of Prof. Adam Nelson in University of Leeds, UK to work as a part of the European Lead Factory project to design libraries of medicinally relevant molecules with high 3D character. Later, in 2018, He joined the laboratory of Dr. Laurent Micouin in University of Paris Descartes to work on designing ligands used in catalyst to reduce Nitrogen to Ammonia. Also He worked on synthesis of new series of avibactam analogues. Currently he is working on chemical modulation of natural products as inhibitors for DNA methylation and potential antimalarials.
Haitham’s research interests are focused on Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Discovery and C-H activation through a radical approaches.
