A postdoc position is available in my research unit at the Institut Pasteur to investigate the early invasion steps of Shigella entry into host cells using cutting-edge microscopy. We combine advanced optical imaging approaches with cryo electron microscopy as well as large volume electron microscopy to investigate how the pathogen perturbs host cell membranes through the action of the type III secretion system. The project includes the implementation of novel techniques and addresses relevant questions in the field of host-pathogen interactions. It involves a dynamic, interdisciplinary and friendly collaboration with different teams at Institut Pasteur, including the EM platform UBI, the Nano Imaging Core, the Light Microscopy platform PBI and the team of our lab neighbor Jean-Christophe Olivo-Marin. All required advanced optical and EM technologies for the project are available on site at the Institut Pasteur. The position is already funded for 3 years.
The candidates for the project should have a background in some of the following fields: cell biology and membrane trafficking, host-pathogen interactions, biochemistry, advanced fluorescence imaging (including super-resolution), large volume EM through FIB-SEM, cryo tomography. As it is unlikely that candidates will have broad expertise in all of these fields at the beginning of the project, we are happy to provide a teaching framework to build up all the required knowledge. Candidates need to have excellent communication skills and should appreciate work within a team. The working language at Institut Pasteur is English. Salary and social benefits will be in accordance with the regulations of Institut Pasteur.
Please send a cover letter, a CV with publication list and three references to Jost Enninga at jost.enninga@pasteur.fr. We would like to fill this position soon, so please send your application until March 15th.
