An 18 months postdoctoral position is available to join the Photonic BioImaging Research Technology & Services Unit at the Institut Pasteur in Paris. The position is aimed at adapting our cellular image based High Content Screening (HCS) pipelines to integrate cutting-edge machine-learning methods (e.g Cell Painting and Cytological Profiling), and emerging methods using deep-learning. Ultimately aimed to systematically optimize and improve HCS for basic research and therapeutics discovery infectious disease models (i.e. parasites, bacteria, viruses, and fungi).
The successful candidate should have:
- Solid knowledge of imaging-microscopy, cell culture and automation in the context of High Content Screening/Imaging,
- An understanding of image analysis workflows,
- An understanding and/or demonstrable experience in image data organization/management
Experience in machine-/deep-learning applied to imaging is a plus.
- Hold a PhD degree in life science or engineering.
- Demonstrate previous relevant hands-on experience in some of the following: cell culture, microscopy, high content screening/imaging, image analysis, data organization/management, deep learning. Good communication skills in English are essential.
In addition to the research engineering challenge, the successful candidate is additionally expected to support and guide burgeoning HCS users of the core facility for relevant projects (in close collaboration with senior members of the team, N. Aulner ad A. Danckaert).
The successful candidate, while predominantly based in the UTechS PBI, will join an interdisciplinary team composed of experts in deep-learning applied to images (Christophe Zimmer), microbiology (Ivo Boneca-Gomperts), and life science imaging specialists (Spencer Shorte) under the auspices of a newly formed Pasteur Joint International unit established between Institut Pasteur Paris and Korea.
PBI (Photonic BioImaging) is a Unit of Technology and Service (UTechS, https://research.pasteur.fr/en/team/photonic-bioimaging-utechs-pbi/) providing optical imaging expertise in life sciences and especially their application in studies on infectious biology. Our activities include service rendering, training, technology-driven research and technology development. They are highly multi-disciplined, and collaborative, with the mission goal focused on the use of quantitative imaging and analysis to understand the processes of cell/tissue-biology, and their usurpation by infection and disease. The R&D is founded upon the need to develop optical imaging methods that bring new understanding of host-pathogen interactions and in situ high-content imaging techniques and their application to infection, cell biology, cellular microbiology, and microbiology. We work on novel techniques extrapolating quantitative information on spatiotemporal dynamics in situ and we push the limits of existing approaches aiming to enhance their performance thereby broadening their experimental utility.
