Abstract : Climate and environmental change may have drastic effects on vector-borne disease risks. In my seminar, I will specifically address how ecological factors affect the interactions among vectors and their pathogens, and how such knowledge can be used to finetune models that make projections about vector-borne disease risks. My work combines field and laboratory work on various systems, including tick-TBEV, Culex-WNV and Aedes-ZIKV interactions. With my team, I specifically focus on overwintering behaviour of vectors and its implications on arbovirus transmission. In addition, we look at whether and how pathogens may affect the behaviour of their vectors to enhance their own transmission. I will end my seminar with some future opportunities that address outstanding questions in vector biology.
