To stay in the cutting edge of genomics technologies, The Institut Pasteur has acquired the third generation sequencing method, the Single Molecule Real-Time (SMRT) technology developed by Pacific Biosciences. At the end of 2016, the new version of the system, the Sequel® has been installed at the Biomics Pole. The initial tasks were focused on set up methods for de novo sequencing and re-sequencing microbial genomes. Sequencing of large-insert DNA libraries for de novo assembly projects was the first settled application. The first results obtained with the latest version of chemistry (launched at the end of January 2017) will be reported. Currently, this new activity is available at the Genomics Platform.
