A descriptive analysis of pertussis in 4 different regions of the world
Coordinated by Fabien Taieb, physician affiliated with the Center for Translational Science at the Institut Pasteur, responsible for the coordination of the Clinical Research in the International Network, and conducted in partnership with the Institut Pasteur in Cambodia, Iran and Madagascar as well as the Agence de Médecine Préventive in Togo, PERILIC will get a set of hitherto unpublished epidemiological data on pertussis.
A large study conducted in the 4 partners countries will estimate the duration of the protection induced by whole-cell vaccines. For this, in each country, the antibodies of eight hundred children and adolescents aged 3-15 years whose vaccination status is known, will be measured.
A second study conducted in Cambodia, Iran and Madagascar, will document the clinical and microbiological characteristics of infants under 6 months with whooping cough syndrome and study the source of contamination in the household members of the infants diagnosed positively for whooping cough. Two hundred infants will be recruited from hospitals involved in this study as well as the closest contact of the infected infants.
