Dengue is an important pathogen for several of the IPIN (Cambodia, Senegal, and Uruguay), as well as IP Paris. One of the most challenging problems that we are now facing is to have an early prognostic marker for severe Dengue. The severity could be due to the virus itself, previous encounters with other Dengue variants, but it could also be due to the genetics of the patient. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been developed for exactly this purpose; to determine how the host genetics can dictate the infection outcome.
We are working with all the GWAS available data from our collaborators in the IPIN to apply and develop new mathematical models that uncover new unknown interactions.
