Institut Pasteur de Côte d'Ivoire

The Institut Pasteur de Côte d’Ivoire (IPCI) is a national public establishment created in 1972. Placed under the administrative and technical supervision of the Ministry in charge of scientific research, the IPCI has been a member of the Pasteur Network since 1978.

The IPCI has a quadruple vocation:

  • Research.
  • Training.
  • Epidemiological surveillance.
  • Service provider.

The IPCI is characterized by highly specialized human resources in a wide variety of fields, which allows it to be perfectly integrated into the national health system. It hosts 20 national reference centres for contagious diseases and coordinates the national network of health laboratories and research laboratories. It is also a member of the West African Health Organization (WAHO) laboratory network from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and hosts several laboratories recognized by World Health Organisation (WHO).

The research topics relate to vector-borne diseases, haemorrhagic fevers, emerging and re-emerging diseases, resistance to anti-infective, viral-induced cancers and neglected tropical diseases.

It hosts several technological platforms and since 2018, has housed the regional biobank of ECOWAS countries. A P4 laboratory, should soon be operational at the center of the Centre for the Study of Pathogens with Severe Infectious Risks.
