Hellenic Pasteur Institute

Established in 1920, the Hellenic Pasteur Institute (IPH), is private and non-profit organization supervised by the Ministry of Development, has a long tradition in translational biomedical research, with focus on Infectious Diseases and on Public Health Services for the Ministry of Health.

The IPH’s main objectives are:

These activities aim to improve human health and well-being through recognized biomedical research, materialized by advanced technologies and translated towards the clinic through innovative diagnostic, prophylactic and therapeutic approaches.
  • Public Health. The IPH has a strategic role in the investigation of outbreaks, epidemics and/or pandemics in Greece, providing services to the Ministry of Health through the Diagnostic Centre, specialized on the rapid detection and diagnosis of bacterial, viral and parasitic diseases. The IPH’s Reference Laboratories contribute to the surveillance, prevention and control of infectious diseases e.g. under the current COVID19 pandemic with the Coronaviruses Reference Laboratory.
  • Vaccine Unit with a modern Quality Control Laboratory provides vaccines to the Public Sector and assessment controls on vaccines and biological products for the Ministry of Health and of the National Drug Organization.
